So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth.
Revelation 3:16

I have a new passion! Kayaking! I love it! The cool breeze off the water, the quiet and stillness. The birds and bugs serenade me as I float effortlessly down the creek. It is the most relaxing part of my life. I haven’t been very adventurous and have been satisfied to float the same creek most Saturday mornings. I am not alone in this and most weekends I see the same people on the water. We nod, exchange pleasantries, and then continue our respective floats. I am comfortable and content on that little stretch of creek.
There are many Christians, myself included that are content with a smooth calm float. We like our Christian walk to be the same with peaceful days and birdsong. We want to smile and say I am a Christian, yet we are unwilling to speak out against sin, we refuse to stand up to opposition and to accept sinful behavior as normal. Our culture is normalizing sin, and we are becoming desensitized to it. What was once shocking isn’t anymore.
One of the reasons I did not write for several months was because God had been calling me to speak up and use my platform to remind people that we cannot be complacent. Being complacent to what is going on in the world subtlety works to change our worldview and our view of sin. The culture is shaping us and preparing us for what is to come. If we are content to accept what is going on around us now, what will we accept as easily later? We must be careful and discerning. In the developing culture around us, especially in the social and mainstream media, truth has become objective, and people adopt their own reality. And they expect us to accept it too. When we accept these false truths, we devalue our faith and God’s design. We also share in the deception and perpetuate it.
Revelation 3:16 is a reminder that being lukewarm is not ok. Complacency and indifference is offensive to God. So much so he would soon spit us out. I do not want to be compliant and accept the narrative of this world. I do not want to be part of the deception. I do not want to be lukewarm.
I understand your fear. I understand your worry. I have been struggling with it too. I have been Moses offering up every excuse and reason why I am not the one. However, we are the ones. We are His children, adopted into His kingdom. If not us, who?
If faith is worth anything, it is worth every thing.
