Under His Wing

He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart. Psalms 91:4

About a month ago, I had one of my chickens turn up missing. I was sad about it because she was a good layer and friendly. I looked for Haley in the woods and around the neighbors but unfortunately, she was not to be found. I tried not to think of what might have happened.

Then two weeks later as I was leaving for work, she was sitting on the front porch. I was very glad to see her. Reaching down to pet her I inquired where she had been, and she replied with a coo. I gave her a little scolding and as I did so, a little yellow head popped up out of her feathers. The tiny creature tilted its head and peeped at me.

Then another head popped up between her feathers.

                Then another.

There were five little yellow chicks all tucked up warm and safe under the generous cover of the Haley’s feathers. I gathered them up and took them to an isolated spot and fed them. Over the next few days, I visited her. I loved watching the mother hen with her tiny chicks. She was very attentive and patient. When it was time to nap, she would sit down and open her wings. When she did so the chicks would immediately run under her, and she would slowly lower them.

Every time I watched Haley invite her babies to hide in her feathers, I was reminded of Psalms 91. Our Father also invites us to enter refuge within Him. He offers us peace and rest. With everything going on around us, it is important to know that we have protection and a refuge available to us. However, many times we think we stand alone blinded and distracted. We forget momentarily that HE is there waiting, wings open.

God is waiting for you to accept the invitation to come to Him. If you are struggling with fear, worry, anxiety or weariness turn to God. Allow Him to cover you with His wings and give you peace.

Typist for Jesus.
