A Clutch of Empty Hope

“He said to them, ‘Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.’” — Mark 16:15

Miss Dixie, my parrot, recently laid three eggs. She sits faithfully on them turning them, warming them, lavishing her love on them. But there is no male parrot in the house, so those eggs will never hatch. They are empty shells.
Her devotion stirred my heart. How many people today are sitting on “empty hope”? They trust in money, possessions, or human promises that cannot give life. Like Dixie’s eggs, these hopes will never hatch into what they long for.
Christmas reminds us that God did not leave humanity with empty hope. Into a world weary with waiting, He sent His Son the living hope, born in a manger. More than 2,000 years later, the good news of Jesus still breaks through the emptiness, offering life, joy, and salvation.
As Christians, we are called to share this hope with others: “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.” (Mark 16:15). Miss Dixie’s empty eggs remind me that I must not keep silent. In this season when lights sparkle and gifts are exchanged; may we remember to share the greatest gift the living hope of Christ with compassion and courage.

If this Mustard Seed encouraged you, consider sharing it with a friend. Together we can spread the gift of Jesus, one seed at a time.
