“Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.” — Colossians 4:2 (NIV)
It’s another New Year. Weight-loss programs, gym memberships, and online classes flood our TVs, radios, and streaming platforms, all promising that this will be the year we become new people.
I’ve never been much for resolutions, probably because they never seemed to stick. Over time, I’ve realized that true change doesn’t start on the outside; it must start within.
Weight loss, education, and physical fitness are good pursuits, but they do little for the spiritual heart. Real transformation happens when we humble ourselves before God. In prayer and thanksgiving, our perspective shifts, our egos soften, and our burdens lighten. This posture of surrender fosters humility, connection with God, and deeper relationships with those around us.
How different would our lives look if prayer became our first response instead of our last resort? How much anxiety and worry we avoid if we went to our knees first?
As we step into this new year, I challenge you to trade even five minutes of scrolling, worrying, or overthinking for five minutes on your knees in prayer.
Now is the time for more knee time and less me time.
