If you are willing and obedient, you shall eat the good of the land-Isaiah 1:19
Confession: I have spent most of my life afraid of disappointing God.
Not because I doubt His love, but because I want so deeply to please Him. And because of that desire, I sometimes worry that I’m not “doing it right,” that I might somehow fail Him without even realizing it.
But this past week, in the middle of one of those quiet, anxious moments, the Lord gently spoke something to my heart:
“You cannot disappoint Me if you are walking in obedience.”
That single truth unlocked a freedom I didn’t even realize I needed.
I thought about what disappointment really is. It happens when someone expects one thing and gets another. But God is not surprised by my weaknesses or limitations. He sees the whole of me — the beginning, the mess, the journey, the growth, and the end. He knows when I will rise and when I will stumble. He knows my intentions, my struggles, and my longing to honor Him.
Disappointment requires unrealistic expectations.
But God has never had unrealistic expectations of His children.
What He desires is obedience — a heart turned toward Him.
Not perfection.
Not performance.
Just a willing spirit that says, “Lord, I want to follow You.”
If you find yourself fearing that you’re not enough…
If you worry that God is shaking His head at you…
If you carry the weight of trying so hard to please Him…
Hear this:
If you are walking in obedience — even slow, small, imperfect obedience — you are pleasing God.
You are His child.
You are fully known.
You are deeply loved.
And you are not a disappointment.
