What if your purpose is as simple as refusing to go dark.
“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works,
and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” — Matthew 5:16 (KJV)
Back at Christmas, I bought several battery‑operated candles with a remote. I placed them on the dining table, the mantle, and the shelf. Every night before bed, I’d turn them all off. The room would fall into darkness — except for one lone candle.
I’d press the remote again. It would go dark for a moment… then pop right back on.
Every night, that one candle refused to be extinguished.
Eventually, I stopped trying. I just let it shine.
The other morning, as I sat with my coffee, I noticed it again still glowing. Months after Christmas, that little candle is still burning, still fulfilling its purpose: to be a light in the dark.
We have the same purpose.
We are called to shine before others so they may see God’s goodness. Your life carries meaning. Your presence has purpose. Someone stumbling in the dark may find their way because of the light you carry. We are encouragers. We are reflectors of Jesus. And sometimes, we may be the only light someone sees.
If you’d like prayer today or want to share how God is helping you shine, I’d love to hear from you in the comments.
If this Mustard Seed encouraged you, consider sharing it with a friend.
Together we can spread the gift of Jesus, one seed at a time.
