“Search me, O God, and know my heart… and see if there be any wicked way in me.”
Psalm 139:23–24 (KJV)
My daughter was digging through the refrigerator the other day, pushing containers around until she pulled out a mystery Tupperware.
“Do you think this is still good?” she asked.
I stared at it and laughed. “Honey, I don’t even remember what that was.”
After she left, I opened the refrigerator again and really looked at what was inside. Things shoved to the back. Leftovers I meant to use. Containers I forgot about. I started pulling things out, tossing what was expired, wiping down shelves, and making space.
Somewhere between the moldy strawberries and the questionable casserole, I thought about the clutter I have in my heart.
We all have things we’ve pushed to the back. Things like old hurts, grudges, habits, thoughts and memories we don’t want to deal with. We tell ourselves we’ll get to them “later,” but later never comes. They just sit there, taking up space, crowding out peace.
When we let God open the door and shine His light, He doesn’t shame us. He simply shows us what needs to go so He can fill us with what is fresh, nourishing, and life‑giving.
And just like my refrigerator, once the clutter was gone, the light seemed brighter.
Maybe today is a good day to let God do a little heart‑cleaning. He wants to make room for something better.
