The Hidden Blessings: What You Think You’ve Lost

“Open my eyes that I may see wonderful things in your law.” Psalm 119:18

A contact lens on a card reading: The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.

This morning started with a tiny mystery.

I put in my right contact, felt that little scratch of irritation, and thought, Well, something’s on it. So, I took it out and dropped in in the solution. A few minutes later, I reached in to get it… and it was gone.

Vanished.

I searched everywhere.

Nothing. Somehow, I had lost it. So, I opened a new one, popped it in — blurry.

I drove to work with one blurry eye. I kept blinking and rubbing but nothing relieved the blurriness. When I got to work, I decided that I couldn’t deal with it and took them out.

Except… there wasn’t one but two contacts in my eye!

The one I thought I’d lost?  It was with me the whole time. I thought that I had removed it but I hadn’t.

And right there, in that silly, blinky moment, God whispered: “Sometimes what you’re looking for is already there.”

We pray for clarity, not realizing God has already placed the answer in our path.

We ask for strength, not noticing it’s already rising in us.

We search for peace, not recognizing it’s been resting quietly in our spirit all along.

Sometimes the problem isn’t absence. It’s awareness.

Sometimes the blessing isn’t delayed. It’s unnoticed.

Sometimes the thing we think we’ve lost… is sitting right where God put it.
