Discouraged by Delays? Keep Walking in Faith
If anyone serves Me, let him follow Me; and where I am, there My servant will be also. If anyone serves Me, him My Father will honor. John 12:26
Lately it feels like everything I do runs into a wall. It has created a constant feeling of frustration, like every avenue is littered with ruts and stones. It’s been discouraging.
One night I was fussing about it to God. Financial pressures, relationship strain, logistics, and a bit of fear were all in the mix. Every step seemed to meet a delay. As I poured out my frustration, a thought sprang to mind:
“Stumbling blocks only show up on a path you are actually walking. People who stay still don’t trip on anything”.
That simple thought reframed everything, making it less restrictive, more hopeful. If I’m encountering stumbling blocks, it may be because I’m actually moving forward. I’m following Jesus.
No matter how many stones and ruts you hit, hold on to this: obstacles often appear because you’re in motion. As followers of Jesus, we’re meant to keep following.
Jesus doesn’t invite spectators; He invites followers. In John 12:26, serving Him is tied to following Him—and following implies movement. Even in seasons when our pace is slow because of illness, caregiving, or grief, we can still be moving toward Him through prayer, obedience, and letting the Holy Spirit work within us.
Throughout Scripture, Jesus calls us to active faith—not complacency on the sidelines. Serving and sharing may look different in different seasons, but delays and stumbling blocks don’t always mean you’re off track; often they’re simply part of forward motion with Jesus—so don’t stop walking.
Don’t let those perceived blocks discourage you. Remember: you may be facing them because you’re doing what you should—moving forward and following Jesus.
So keep walking!
