The evil deeds of the wicked ensnare them: the cords of their sins hold them fast. Proverbs 5:22(NIV)
Ah fresh coffee, pale and sweet, the perfect start of the day, she thought as she left her mug on the counter to cool. A few minutes later, she returned to find the cup half empty and puddles of coffee.
“Tucker! Schwartz!” She yelled. Obediently the two labs came and sat side by side. Their chest out and faces lifted as they presented at attention before their mistress.
“Did you drink my coffee?” She asked, pointing at the coffee cup on the counter. Both looked at her with innocent wide eyes, the tips of their tails shaking with restraint. Except for Tucker, the younger of the duo, white creamer clung to his whiskers slowly dripping on the floor.
No one ever gets away with wrongdoing. Often we think that we have and to a degree, we believe it. However, sin will be revealed. It is not a pleasant thought nor one that I enjoy dwelling on, but it is a reality. We should strive to avoid sin in every arena of our lives. We will sin and fall short, and when this happens, we should be expedient in repentance. With this in mind, the best thing is to resist the temptation of sin. How? First, by not putting yourself in situations that could lead to sin. Secondly, by not associating with people engaged in sinful pursuits. Finally, remember you are not of this world but have been set apart. You are in this world, but you are not part of it.
Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. Romans 12:2 (NIV)
