🌱 Root‑Bound Faith: Growing Through the Discomfort of Obedience

Be strong and courageous and do the work. Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord God, my God, is with you. 1 Chronicles 28:20

Sometimes obedience doesn’t feel holy or heroic. It feels frightening and uncomfortable.

Have you ever had a plant that isn’t growing? It just kind of exists — no new leaves, no fresh shoots. It’s become root‑bound. The roots have filled the pot, leaving no room for growth.

I feel like that sometimes. We can live in the same familiar pot for so long that the cramped space starts to feel normal. We know every inch of it. We know how to survive there. And even when we’re not growing anymore, at least we’re comfortable.

But then God puts His hands around us and lifts. And suddenly everything feels exposed — the tangled roots, the dry soil, the parts of us we’ve kept hidden. Obedience can feel like being shaken loose from everything we’ve settled into.

And honestly? It’s frightening. Obedience often means stepping out in faith and entering new, uncomfortable places. It’s about trust — trusting that God sees what we cannot, and that His movement is always purposeful.

But here’s the truth: God never repots us to harm us. He repots us to grow us.

The stretching, the loosening, the discomfort — it’s all making room for new roots, deeper roots, stronger roots.

If obedience feels uncomfortable right now, it doesn’t mean you’re doing it wrong. It might mean God is giving you more room than you’ve ever had before — more room to flourish, more room to grow, more room to fulfill the unique purpose He planted in you.
