For God so loved the World, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16 ESV
I stopped off at the Walmart on the way home from work. I had three things that I needed. I went in with the purpose of getting just those three but by the time I made it to the checkout counter, the cart was full of clothes and toys for the grand baby. I find myself in the toys and infant clothing every time I go to the store. I want to make sure that my grandchild has all that she could possibly want or need. I want her to have comfortable warm clothing and toys that engage her mind and delight her. I was the same way with my children and to be honest I still am, the cart had a few things for them as well.
It is natural to want your children to be happy and have everything they need and we have an internal drive to do so. God is much the same in His desire for His children. He has provided a beautiful world, an array of beautiful animals, relationships, family, food to satisfy all tastes, and His son for the salvation of His beloved.
God loves you and me so much, He gave us so many wonderful things but the most important gift was His son Jesus. This season as you shop for your children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, or neighbor kids, remember that the most important gift that you can impart to these children and those in your life is Jesus. We want so much for our children, we want to give them everything we can, and we become distracted by the glitz and glamour of the marketed Christmas. Before you fill the space under the tree, take time to share the real story and the true meaning of Christmas. It is not about what is under the tree, rather what was laid in the manger.
