🌱Breaking Free from Safe Routines: Trusting God’s Nudge

“Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God.” — Isaiah 41:10

This weekend I took my grandchildren to the local amusement park. It was a day of sun, fun, and firsts. We hit the tried-and-true rides — the merry-go-round, the antique cars, and all the familiar favorites.

But what stood out to me was how they approached the new rides.

They would stand at the edge of something unfamiliar, eyes wide, curiosity pulling them forward. You could almost see the moment hope flickered: Maybe I could try this one.

But then fear whispered.

And just like that, they turned back to the ride they already knew. The safe one. The predictable one. The one that didn’t ask anything new of them. I rode several rides repeatedly.

We do this too. I do this.

God places new opportunities in front of us — a conversation we’ve been avoiding, a calling we’ve been sensing, a step of faith that feels bigger than we are. Something inside us leans forward. We imagine what life might look like if we tried. We feel the nudge of the Holy Spirit saying, Come on. Trust Me.

But fear is loud.

Fear tells us we’re not ready. Fear tells us we might fail. Fear tells us to go back to what’s familiar.

And so we circle the same safe routines, the same habits, the same comfortable places — not because they’re best, but because they’re known.

But Jesus doesn’t call us to a life of circling.

He calls us to trust Him enough to step into the new — the growth, the stretching, the possibility He’s prepared for us. Our potential isn’t found in the ride we’ve already mastered. It’s found in the one He’s inviting us to try.

Courage isn’t the absence of fear. It’s moving forward because we trust the One who walks beside us.

Maybe today is the day to try the new ride.
