Galatians 2:20 — “I no longer live, but Christ lives in me.”
There are people in my life who still define me by my past mistakes. Not by who I am now. Not by what God has healed. Not by what He has planted in me. But by the moments I wish I could rewrite.
For some, those mistakes became my identity, a label, a limitation, a lens they never bothered to update. And for a long time, I carried that weight, the feeling that my failures were the truest thing about me.
But Peter’s story reminds me of something different.
Jesus didn’t identify Peter by his denials. He didn’t say, “Peter, you failed Me.” He didn’t say, “Peter, you blew it.” He didn’t say, “Peter, I can’t trust you anymore.”
He asked him, “Do you love Me?”
Three times — once for every failure.
Not to shame him, but to restore him.
Jesus spoke to the part of Peter He planted, not the part that collapsed. And He does the same with me. He does the same with you.
People may define us by our worst moments, but Jesus defines us by what He planted, the love, the calling, the future, the purpose.
Our failures are chapters, not identities. Don’t allow what others have chosen to believe about you to become what you believe. Trust what Jesus says about you.
