Desire without knowledge is not good. How much more will hasty feet miss the way! Proverbs 19:2
I am working on the biggest writing project I have ever attempted. For years the idea has rolled around in my head, but I ignored it. I feared that I couldn’t pay it the attention it deserved. I doubted that I possessed the talent to actually pull it off.
Six months ago, I said OK, Lord. I’m going to write it. The Lord heard me and several doors and opportunities opened up for me in what seemed like overnight. However, the project will take months maybe a year to complete. Some days I find myself overwhelmed and honestly, afraid.
I get so focused on the whole thing, the finished story, the future outcome, the agent, the publisher, that I neglect the one thing God actually told me to do.
He just asked me to write it.
When I rush ahead, I’m not just moving fast. I’m moving off the path. Scripture says it plainly: hasty feet miss the way.
When I try to leap into Step 7, I cheat myself out of the process God designed to shape me in Step 1. The growth, the refinement, the obedience, it all happens in the step I’m tempted to skip.
God rarely hands us the entire map. He gives us a lamp for the next step.
So today, I’m choosing to slow down. To stop sprinting toward the whole thing. To return to the assignment already sitting at my feet.
Just write it.
One step at a time. One act of obedience at a time. Trusting that when this step is complete, He’ll show me the next.
I don’t need to worry about the whole thing. I just need to do what He told me to do.
